"particularly informative.... All levels"

Book Description
This work explores the mystery of human consciousness and the impact of external forces on it. "Recovered memory" (e.g., of childhood sexual abuse), alleged hypnosis, retrowareness and pseudomemories are discussed in detail, with a particular emphasis on whether certain kinds of memory are real or are artifacts of unscrupulous psychologists and other counselors. The various states of consciousness are thoroughly examined as are the counseling profession and its potential for harm.

This work strips away the pretense of psychology in a most fascinating way. I read and reread this book several years ago while doing a feature article about the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Rogers was a science consultant with NASA at that time. It is a very straightforward look at most of the psychotherapy methods of the day. I found it not purposely disparaging in any way. It is simply a "matter of fact" synopsis. An example is a quote from Rogers, "The process of all the myriad psychotherapies are more akin to voodoo than any kind of actual science".
